Description

Are you an experienced Accounts Assistant with a strong understanding of Purchase Ledger and reconciliations?

Are you someone who enjoys working with detail, investigating discrepancies and making sure the numbers are right?

We are working with a successful and growing business that is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join its finance team. This is a varied role for someone who is solid, bright and commercially aware, with the ability to work at pace and take ownership of their responsibilities.

The Role

As an Accounts Assistant, you will play an important role within the finance team, with responsibility for Purchase Ledger, supplier accounts and a range of detailed reconciliations. You will work closely with suppliers and teams across the business to ensure invoices, payments, credits and reconciliations are processed accurately and on time.

This is not simply an invoice-processing position. The successful candidate will need to be confident investigating discrepancies, resolving issues and working across multiple areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the supplier set-up process, ensuring company procedures and policies are followed.
  • Process and match invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Assist with invoice checking, coding and approval processes.
  • Reconcile monthly supplier statements against the ERP system and investigate and resolve differences.
  • Monitor outstanding invoices and proactively chase documentation ahead of month-end.
  • Support month-end Purchase Ledger processes, ensuring supplier accounts are accurate and up to date.
  • Work closely with the Goods In team to investigate discrepancies between goods received delivery notes and invoices.
  • Monitor unfulfilled orders and liaise with suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Process and monitor supplier returns, credits and adjustments.
  • Assist with BACS payment runs.
  • Complete accurate merchant reconciliations across multiple income streams.
  • Monitor transactions daily and work closely with Customer Services to ensure refunds and credits are processed correctly and promptly.
  • Complete retail shop reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Regularly review supplier information within the ERP system to ensure records remain accurate.
  • Assist with year-end audit requirements.
  • Provide finance support to the Sales team and other areas of the business.
  • Assist with ad hoc finance projects and duties as required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and capable Accounts Assistant who has a good grounding in finance and is confident working with detailed financial information.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable or similar finance role.
  • Strong knowledge of Purchase Ledger processes and reconciliations.
  • Proven experience with supplier statement reconciliations.
  • The ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues effectively.
  • Experience working with an ERP or accounting system.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to work accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment, particularly around month-end.

Qualifications & Development

AAT Technician qualified, part-qualified or studying towards AAT would be desirable.

However, we are equally interested in candidates who may not hold a formal qualification but have developed strong practical finance experience and demonstrate the ability, aptitude and ambition to progress.

**Please be aware this role is fully office based and attendance to Blackburn is required daily. **
