Description

We are currently working with a fantastic client who are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Assistant Accountant in this newly created role into their current finance team and report directly into the Finance Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT Technician, AAT qualified/part-qualified accountant or experienced Accounts Assistant who is ready to take on greater responsibility and develop their accounting career.

The Role

This is a varied role within a busy finance team, with a particular focus on reconciliations, revenue, bank transactions and maintaining the accuracy of the nominal ledger. You'll be responsible for making sure financial transactions are correctly recorded, investigating discrepancies and ensuring the finance team has accurate information to work from.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working with detail but also wants to understand the bigger picture — someone who will question a figure that doesn't look right, investigate the reason and see it through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities as Assistant Accountant

  • Complete a range of daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Reconcile revenue and income streams, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and accounted for.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank transactions, receipts, payments and other financial movements.
  • Complete balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
  • Investigate variances and unusual transactions, identifying the underlying cause and ensuring corrections are made.
  • Review and maintain the accuracy of the nominal ledger.
  • Ensure Purchase Ledger invoices are correctly coded to the appropriate nominal accounts, departments and cost centres.
  • Review financial postings to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting procedures.
  • Assist with month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Support the accurate recording and reconciliation of revenue across different income streams.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial information and reporting.
  • Assist with year-end preparation and external audit requirements.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the business to investigate and resolve financial queries.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.
  • Provide support across the wider finance function and assist with ad hoc accounting projects

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience of bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience working with revenue and multiple income streams.
  • Experience of nominal coding of the Purchase Ledger invoices.
  • Strong Excel and accounting systems experience.
  • Excellent numerical ability and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment and meet month-end deadlines.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed a strong practical understanding of accounting and are now looking to broaden their experience.

You may be an experienced Accounts Assistant ready for the next step, or an Assistant Accountant looking for a role where you can take on more responsibility.
